Galicia4Energy Brings Together Galicia’s Energy Research and Industry in Vilagarcía

The Municipal Auditorium of Vilagarcía de Arousa hosted the Galician Symposium on Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion (#Galicia4Energy) on 4-5 June 2026. Its goal, Souto explained, is “to create a space for connection among all the actors that make up Galicia’s energy ecosystem. We believe that connecting capabilities is essential to accelerate knowledge transfer, generate joint projects, and turn research into innovation with industrial and economic impact for Galicia.” The first day featured presentations by leading research groups in energy storage and conversion from Galician universities and other Iberian institutes. The second day focused on technology transfer, with participation from technology centres (CETIM, AIMEN, ITG), Galician companies such as Ferroglobe and Norvento, and the Galician Renewable Energy Cluster (Cluergal). “We hope that dialogue among researchers, technology centres, and companies will lead to concrete synergies, such as identifying collaboration lines on advanced materials. A key goal is to facilitate knowledge transfer toward industrial applications, so that research results currently at a basic stage can evolve into prototypes or new market-ready technological solutions.”

Galicia4Energy was supported by GAIN (Xunta de Galicia) and the Vilagarcía City Council. The opening ceremony featured Carmen Cotelo (Director of GAIN), Alberto Varela (Mayor of Vilagarcía), and a welcome message from Stanley Whittingham, 2019 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for the discovery of lithium-ion batteries. The symposium was also supported by the Specialized Group on Nanoscience and Molecular Materials (GENAM) of the RSEQ, as well as various sector platforms and companies.
